Privacy Policy
RecipeScoop is built to know as little about you as possible. There is no account, no sign-up, and no advertising.
Your recipes
Recipes you save are stored on your device. If you are signed in to iCloud, they also sync between your iPhone and iPad through your private iCloud database (Apple's CloudKit). That data is covered by Apple's privacy policy, and we cannot read it. We do not keep a copy on our servers. You can turn iCloud sync off in the app's Settings.
Recipe imports
When you save a recipe with AI (from a link, photos or text), the content you selected is sent to the RecipeScoop server, which processes it with OpenAI's API to extract the recipe. The page text or photos you sent are used to produce your recipe card and are not kept afterwards. Nothing about an import is linked to you or to your device.
Recipe statistics
When you save a recipe from a link, our server keeps a record of the recipe itself: the address of the page or post, its title, its creator or site, and the recipe card that was produced from it, together with a count of how many times that recipe has been imported. This is an aggregate record about public recipes, not about people — it does not say who imported a recipe, and it cannot be connected to your device. We use it to see which recipes people are saving, and we may publish lists such as the most-imported recipes, with a title and a link to the original. Recipes you save from photos or by typing them in are not part of this record.
Device identifier
To count your free recipe imports without requiring an account, the app registers an anonymous device identifier using Apple's DeviceCheck. This identifier is random, contains no personal information, and cannot be used to identify you. It is stored in your device's secure Keychain.
Reminders
The app requests access to the Reminders app solely to export your shopping list to the list you choose.
Camera and photo library
Camera and photo library access is used only for adding recipe photos and importing recipes from images. Photos are sent nowhere except to the RecipeScoop server for AI processing, and only when you yourself start an import from images.
Subscriptions
Purchases are processed by Apple. Our subscription partner (RevenueCat) reports an anonymous subscription status to our server so the app can unlock Pro features. We never see your payment details.
Launch notification list
If you enter your email address on this website to be notified at launch, we store that address (and the time you signed up) in our database, hosted in the EU. It is used for exactly one purpose: to send you one email when RecipeScoop becomes available. It is not shared with anyone else, and it is separate from the app — the app itself never asks for an email. To be removed from the list at any time, email support@recipescoop.app from that address.
Diagnostics
Our server keeps short-lived technical logs (such as request counts and error codes) to keep the service running and to prevent abuse. Logs are not linked to your identity. The recipe statistics above are kept as long as they are useful.
What we don't do
- No ads, no trackers, no analytics SDKs — in the app or on this website
- No selling or sharing of data with third parties beyond the processors named above
- No profiling
Diagnostic log on your device
The app writes a local diagnostic log on your device. The log is never sent anywhere automatically — you can export it yourself from the app's Settings, for example to attach to a support request. The log may contain the web addresses of recipes you have imported.
Deleting your data
You can delete individual recipes in the app, or all data by deleting the app.
Changes to this policy
Material changes will be announced by updating this policy and its date.
